Denver Senior Photographer: Becca Abrahamson, Clear Creek High School, Class of 2016

The featured senior to start off this week is the one and only, Becca Abrahamson! Becca is part of the class of 2016 at Clear Creek High School, and is INCREDIBLY active in that community. Not only is she intelligent beyond her years, she also plays not one, not two, but three sports at her school!! Somehow she tackles all of that chaos and still manages to look this cute :) Becca, we are so proud of you and all the wonderful things you do! My team and I hope you have a senior year as amazing as you are :)

Describe yourself in a tweet! (140 characters or less): There are three main things you should know about me. 1) I am a dedicated athlete. 2) I have always loved learning. 3) I have always struggles with putting myself into words. The first two things I listed are what always come first to mind when faced with a question like this, and the third is what I'm thinking as I write them down. I left this question for last so I could ponder how exactly I was going to answer, and this is what I came up with. I sincerely hope that my senior year brings some enlightenment as to who I am and who I want to be!

What is your definition of beauty?: I define beauty as the acceptance of the parts of yourself that have made you the person you've been since birth. Everyone changes, and that's how it should be, but there are always things about you that stay the same no matter what. Whether those things are good or bad, they are essential to your character and make you a beautiful, dynamic human being. Accepting both your vices and your virtues, and loving yourself, allows you to reach your full capacity as a wonderful, beautiful person.

What song would give us the greatest insight into you?: The most insightful song in my life would probably be "Ain't No Sunshine" by Bill Withers. Not because of the subject or lyrics of the song necessarily, but because of the circumstances under which it was written. Bill Withers wrote it very late in his life after never having been a musician in any form. He was just inspired, and he wrote from the heart. In the end, he created a beautiful, classic song that resonates within everybody, a song that will continue to be relatable for decades to come. It proves that you can do anything you set your mind to, at any time in your life. It's never too late to follow your dreams! I hope to follow his lead, and always follow my heart.

What's your best joke/pun?:
Question: What do you get when you combine a joke and a rhetorical question?
Answer: .........

What's the greatest board game ever invented?: Clue

As a child, what was the first thing you remember wanting to be when you grew up?: The first thing I ever wanted to be when I was young was a nurse, like my grandmother. I grew up listening to her stories about her career, and even as a little girl I could tell she absolutely loved every moment of it. Some of her longest, closest relationships began in nursing school. Her job was one that seemed both challenging and incredibly rewarding, and unpredictable enough that it never grew boring or tiresome. In the end, she's really one of the strongest people I know, and I would be grateful if I could live half the life that she
has lived.

What were your first words? Do they say anything about the person you are today?:
My first word was "doggy," which I think speaks volumes to who I am today. I can't think of a single moment when my home wasn't filled to the brim with animals of all kinds. Dogs, cats, chickens, guinea pigs, ducks, fish... You name it and I've probably had it. I am definitely an animal lover. When I was little my mother had to physically hold me back from strange dogs; otherwise I would have been all over them in a second. Though I consider myself more of a cat person today, all animals definitely hold a dear place in my heart, and always will.

Who is your favorite Disney princess?: My favorite Disney princess had always been Belle. I think I identify with her because of her bookish charm and her love of learning. Not only that, but I think, internally at least, she's one of the most beautiful princesses there are. She is kind-spirited and accepting, and she is able to look past appearances and see the real beauty within everyone. I think she is an amazing role model for all young girls!

If you could be anywhere in the world right now, where would you be? With who? Doing what?: If I could be anywhere... I would be in Peoria, Illinois. Not very exotic, I know, but it's one of my favorite places in the world. I practically spent half my childhood there with my family, both immediate and extended. I have really good memories of catching fireflies at night and eating Emo's ice cream by the Mississippi River during the day. The summers are beautifully green, and the winters are snowy enough to satisfy this Colorado girl's heart. I even love the thick, humid air that fills your lungs with every breath. It really is my
favorite place!

Finish this sentence: I may be stuck on a desert island, but at least I have my...
...sister

If you went to Hogwarts, what house would you be put in? Why?: At Hogwarts, I would (hopefully) be placed in Ravenclaw. I believe wit and intelligence are invaluable, and in Ravenclaw I would be surrounded by people who think the same way. I've always been a bookworm; there was rarely a time in my childhood that I didn't have my nose in a book, and oftentimes it was a new book every day. So Ravenclaw really seems the most appealing
to me!

Share one last thing with us... One of the most important things in my life (besides my books of course) is my athletic involvement. Ever since 6th grade I have been a three sport athlete. Volleyball, basketball, and soccer have taken up huge chunks of my life, and they have all taught me valuable lessons about not only being healthy and active, but about being a leader in other parts of my life as well. Teamwork, dedication, and power are all part of my personality now because of my athletics. It's a huge part of who I am, and I hope it always will be.

Denver Senior Photographer: Danika Caruso, Ralston Valley High School, Class of 2016

Today, our lovely class of 2016 featured senior is the breathtaking Danika Caruso from Ralston Valley High School! :) This girl is SO amazingly sweet and kind hearted, but don't let her soft demeanor fool you... Danika can bring the sass in front of the camera like no other!! It's always fun to find girls who have such a confident and beautiful presence, and then get to turn that into a piece of art! Danika, we hope that you remember this time of your life with such fondness, and look back at it to find some of your favorite memories :)

What is your definition of beauty?: My definition of beauty is being comfortable in oneself and everyone can see this radiating from the person from the inside out.

What song would give us the greatest insight into you?: Just at the top of my head... may "Fire N Gold" by Be a Miller.

What's your best joke/pun?: "You've got to be kitten me right meow" has always been my favorite :)

As a child, what was the first thing you remember wanting to be when you grew up?: As a child I had always wanted to be an astronaut.

What were your first words? Do they say anything about the person you are today?: My first words were an attempt at my name as I called myself "ka" and "tick tock"
was my other.

Who is your favorite Disney princess? Why?: Belle is my favorite Disney princess because she looks the most like me and Beauty and the Beast is one of my
favorite Disney movies.

If you could be anywhere in the world right now, where would you be? With who? Doing what?: I would be on the beach/by the pool in Costa Rica because it is my absolute favorite place :)

If you went to Hogwarts, what house would you be put in? Why?: I honestly have never read Harry Potter and have only seen barely one or two of the movies, so I really don't know!

Finish this sentence: I may be stuck on a desert island, but at least I have my...
...friend with me!

Denver Senior Photographer: Emily Jones, Lakewood High School, Class of 2016

With another crazy week under our belts, thank goodness it's Friday!! Our featured senior to kick off the weekend is the lovely Emily Jones from the class of 2016 at Lakewood High School. This classic beauty was INCREDIBLE to get to work with, and is truly inspiring in so many ways. Emily is so intelligent and kind, and plans to put those skills to good use in her future. The world needs more people like Emily!! We had such a great time getting to photograph this stunning young woman, and we are so amazed by her drive and ambition :) Good luck Emily!!

Describe yourself in a tweet! (140 characters or less): I'm dedicated, optimistic, and passionate. I love helping others -- even indirectly -- and my heart beats for research, writing, technology, education, and God.

What is your definition of beauty?: Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, entirely. There have been so many rumors that you see yourself as five times more beautiful than others do, or perhaps 20% more so, and Body Dysmorphic Disorder is on the rise. Regardless of the actual statistics, it's clear that we see ourselves differently than others do. Society isn't helping when they set standards that we don't live up to -- or that may not even agree with. When makeup tutorials proclaim their eyeliner technique produces the holy grail of cat eyes and that any other way is wrong, it sets women up for disappointment (I don't even like cat eyes!). It doesn't stop at hair, makeup, and waistlines. People prefer different landscapes, instagram filters, interior design, personalities (this is a stretch into the abstract form of beauty, but it totally counts), etc. The point is, everyone who looks at something will have a different opinion. But especially when you're the object of interest, the only opinion that matters is yours.

What song would give us the greatest insight into you?: Hmmmm... This is a REALLY hard question. I have no idea what song would give an insight into my life. I went through most of my phone and I really don't know! So, I guess I'll just give you my favorite songs (I'm too indecisive to even narrow it down to one).
BOY - Skin (Acoustic)
Jonathan McReynolds - Pressure
MisterWives - Our Own House

What's your best joke/pun?: What do you call a fish without any eyes? A Fsh.

What's the greatest board game ever invented?: Life

If you went to Hogwarts, what house would you be put in? Why?: Ahhhheeesshh... I've never seen Harry Potter... I've tried but I fall asleep every time... Sorry.

As a child, what was the first thing you remember wanting to be when you grew up?: A mom :)

What were your first words? Do they say anything about the person you are today?: My first words were "stop it," though they sounded a little more like "bopit." I'm sure a lot of people with older siblings have similar stories, but the words just go to show the teasing nature of my two older brothers, Jake and Ransom. From hiding my toys to punching my arm to loudly debating politics, my brothers and I have always drawn an eye or two in public.

Who is your favorite Disney princess? Why?: I absolutely adore Belle! I always have and always will! The Beauty and the Beast seems to be the cutest love story on Earth and I used to watch it endlessly. Despite the townspeople's ridicule, I like how Belle keeps her nose stuck in a book and sticks up for her dad. Plus, she eventually overlooks the Beast's looks and temper.

If you could be anywhere in the world right now, where would you be? With who? Doing what?: I would be somewhere in the UP of Michigan with my family! We'd be hanging out on the great lakes, hiking, touristing (?) around, and taking pictures of everything (the UP is the prettiest place in the U.S., Im sure of it!).

Finish this sentence: I may be stuck on a desert island, but at least I have my...
... dogs (two adorable golden retrievers)

Share one last thing with us... Oh my gosh there's a million things I could put here... I guess I'll tell you that I'm planning to become a biomedical engineer after high school (well... it'll be a while after high school). It's the perfect cross between engineering and medical field. And it will allow me to help patients without all the germs! I completely fell in love with biomedical engineering in my sophomore year when I began having chronic migraines. After I spent what felt like forever in MRI machines and had a bout a million blood draws, magnets and needles started calling my attention, and now I want to spend my life making them better.

Denver Senior Photographer: Natalie Brunel, Golden High School, Class of 2016

Sooooo very happy to introduce today's class of 2016 senior feature, Natalie Brunel!! Natalie goes to Golden High School and is involved in everything from athletics to choir. What a talented beauty, am I right?! She has such a natural, kind light about her that shines so brightly in the lives of everyone she meets. Natalie, you are absolutely BEAUTIFUL and we had such a great time getting to showcase that beauty :) We hope you have the best senior year, and many even better years after that!

Describe yourself in a tweet! (140 characters or less): I am kind, honest, fun, shy, but outgoing once you get to know me. I'm a soccer and choir lover and am very passionate about both. I cherish all my wonderful friends and family and getting a good education is very important to me. I am thankful to everyone who has gotten me this far. I have loved high school so far, and can't wait for my senior year!

What is  your definition of beauty?: My definition of beauty is shown through one's actions. Someone with a pretty face and an ugly personality is never beautiful. Simple acts of kindness and going out of one's way to do things for other people is a beautiful trait. There is beauty to be found in everyone and everything, you just have to look hard enough to find it.

What song would give us the greatest insight into you?: Fight Song by Rachel Platten because it is empowering and explains how I always strive to do my best and never give up in difficult times.

What's your best joke/pun?: My best puns are...
I used to have a fear of hurdles, but I got over it.
To write with a  broken pencil is pointless.

As a child, what was the first thing you remember wanting to be when you grew up?: As a child, the first thing I remember wanting to be when I grew up was a vet because of my love for animals :)

What were your first words? Do they say anything about the person you are today?: My first word was "mama" :P

Who is your favorite Disney princess? Why?: Mulan is my favorite Disney princess because she is strong, daring, brave, and beautiful and those are all qualities I strongly admire. I believe she is definitely the most admirable and inspirational princess.

If you could be anywhere in the world right now, where would you be? With who? Doing what?: I would be hiking in Hawaii with my best friends :)

Finish this sentence: I may be stuck on a desert island, but at least I have my...
...cat :)

If you went to Hogwarts, what house would you be put in? Why?: If I went to Hogwarts, I would be put in Hufflepuff because I love family, comfort, and animals. I, like someone in Hufflepuff, also value teamwork and prefer to avoid danger.

What's the greatest board game ever invented?: Monopoly

Share one last thing with us... I play soccer (club and for my high school) and enjoy both. My senior year of high school, I am going to be in the top choir called the 24th Street Singers at my school. I also love hiking. I love getting to explore new places, be out in nature, and exercising all at the same time.

I also can't wait to have my senior pictures taken! :)
